More CASTL`s activities this week and next week

More CASTL`s appearance in other parts of Europe this week and next week.

Alexander Pfaff is traveling to Amsterdam to give a talk on re- and Postnominal Adjectives from an Icelandic Perspective at the conference entitled “Adjectives in Germanic  and Romance: Variation and Change” (March 28-31).

Marit Westergaard is invited to Venice from March 28 til April 3 to give two talks at Ca’Foscari University, one on the acquisition of word order in English and Norwegian wh-questions: Usage-based vs. rule-based learning, and another on Norwegian Determiners in English-Norwegian Bilingual Acquisition and Attrition (a joint work with Merete Anderssen and Yulia Rodina).

Let CASTL glow in GLOW again!

We now cannot let the prestigious GLOW conference glow without CASTL being present. This year, the recent tradition of CASTL`s appearance in GLOW will be continued by Kristine Bentzen and Peter Svenonius with their poster presentations on Discourse effects on the availability of Object Shift and North Sámi Pronouns, respectively. GLOW 35 will take place in Potsdam, Germany from March 27 to April 1, 2012. The details of the conference can be found here.

1 million NOK to the NoRus project from Tromsø Research Foundation!

Marit Westergaard and Yulia Rodina have just received 1 million NOK from Tromsø Research Foundation for the NoRus project, Bilingual Norwegian-Russian Children in North Norway: Language Acquisition and Language Use. Congratulations!

Kristine Bentzen and Merete Anderssen travel to Göteborg

This week, Kristine Bentzen and Merete Anderssen are traveling to Göteborg in Sweden to present their work on Norwegian object shift at the Object Shift Workshop (22-23, March). Kristine will also teach a Ph.D course on “Field methods and experiments”.  More information can be found here. Good luck!

Support from International Symposia 2012

Every year the Central Administration distributes 1 mill NOK for international conferences held at UiT through “International Symposia”. CASTL this year receives funding for both conferences that we applied for:
- Acquisition at the Interface: 25.000 NOK
- Decennium: The First 10 Years of CASTL: 75.000 NOK

Bilingualism research by the Tromsø acquisition group now featuring at sciencenordic.com

The interview by Kristine Bentzen and Merete Andersse on bilingualism, which appeared at forskning.no earlier, is now available in English at http://sciencenordic.com/. This will certainly bring global attention to the bilingualism research by the Tromsø Acquisition group. Great accomplishment, Kristine and Merete!

HSL overgangsstipend to Monika Bader and Éva Dékány
